Cake

[livejournal.com profile] memento_mori started a meme which may appeal to some of you.

The Mission:
Replace any single word in a line of movie dialogue with the word, "cake."
Post it on your LJ, along with a cake-themed userpic.

Mine:
Highlander - "I have something to say: it's better to burn cake than to fade away."

Me

oxfordhacker: (Cute overload - head and shoulders)
At last, a meme that justifies my rule of only friending attractive people.

Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don't change your clothes. Don't fix your hair. Just take a picture.
Post that picture with no editing.
Post these instructions with your picture.

Lots of people on my friends list seem to be doing this (though [livejournal.com profile] bisonfish was the first I saw), but I'd enjoyed a suprisingly large number before it even occurred to me to participate. I guess I normally treat the internets as just another (indeed, my primary) entertainment/distraction vector, so I sometimes forget that LJ is something that I actually do as well...

Contrary to the spirit of the meme (but entirely congruent with my nature), I took 7 or 8 pictures, but then settled on the first one that I took after all.
oxfordhacker: (Deep in thought. Or drunk. I forget.)
I finally got round to doing that thing where you post the first line of the first post of each month of last year. So here's my 2007 in a nutshell:

January: Resolution 1 (of some): Job: So, I've decided on at least one resolution: to get a new job.

February: Pride: January brought a number of reasons to be proud:

March: Resolution round-up: I've realised that I didn't post a follow-up to most of my New Year's Resolutions, so here goes:

April: Odd at work: My workplace is perhaps a little strange.

May: Mo' Money Making: So, undoubtably you were impressed by my previous ingenious money-making scheme.

June: Posted using sms_to_lj...: This is a test of my Glastonbury live-blogging capability.

July: The meaning of life: 'A fairy's pube': Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] white_hart's here:

August: Playing dressing up: [livejournal.com profile] tinyjo wandered in while I was playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas last night and caught me engaged in a rather embarrassing activity: clothes shopping.

September: Oneiromancy: Last night I had a dream.

October: Literate: In an out-of-hours bookshop, drinking pink champagne, listening to readings from poets & writers.

November: Twittering: I believe that was the quintessential IKEA experience: buying a couple of things we hadn't planned on, and failing to get one that we had...

December: Twittering: She says I'm great in bed.

So, work & festivals, introspection & comedy, memes & dreams, decadence & domestication, computer games & sex. Seems pretty representative, really.

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] white_hart's here:
1. Go into the archives of your LJ.
2. Find your 42nd entry ever. Yes, this may require some counting and basic math. Deal with it.
3. Link to that entry in a new entry. This is the meaning of your life.

Obviously, I'm only doing this meme because I like the results, which seem to sum up my preoccupations, then as now. A uncannily representative combination of purile observational humour, boredom at work, obsession with books, hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] tinyjo, and dissatisfaction with TV...

Not much about music (or at least, not much enthusiasm about music), but it does follow two posts documenting my crush on appreciation of local indie rockers 'Sexy Breakfast'.

I think I will choose to take comfort in my consistency over the past half decade. I guess it's that or roll the dice again by having a mid-life crisis, and I would really rather avoid that if possible...
